A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a buff hexagon, top and base edges horizontal, bearing two scarlet peaks issuing from base, and overall, from base throughout, the capital and upper shaft of a gold Corinthian column; on a scarlet scroll enclosing the upper part of the hexagon the inscription SERVE arched over the top, and on an adjoining scarlet scroll around the sides and base the inscription SUPPORT on the left and SUSTAIN on the right, all in gold letters.
Buff and scarlet are the colors used for Support. The column signifies the support mission of the Group and alludes to the motto. The Corinthian column, suggested by the faade and rotunda of the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City also indicates the origin and location of the organization. The peaks denote the surrounding mountains, and the hexagon, a symbol for crystalline substance, refers to salt for which the area is noted. Additionally, the upright column, the hexagon, and the two peaks allude to the numerical designation (162) of the Group.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 June 1971.
